# Smithing

It's about to get hot in here – 1,250°C to be precise! Smithing is an incredibly valuable skill whereby mined resources are smelted, refined, and then crafted into armor, shields, weapons, and other useful items. To power up your furnace, you’ll need to make sure you have harvested the wood and/or coal required to do so. You can then smelt the ore you have mined to produce refined metal bars and begin to craft your desired equipment. The more you develop this skill, the more challenging recipes you’ll unlock to become one of the most esteemed Smithers around.

To begin smithing, confer with Benoit. Although he spent his younger years as a pirate freebooting the seas in search of gold, he is now settled and focused on his dream of being one of the best Smiths in the world. He'll be sure to help, so long as you greet him with a Yaaarr.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.bitmates.io/gameplay/life-skills/smithing.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
